I wasn't sure what to expect but by the end of the 3 days I knew I had come across something amazing-- something that will not only help me become a better teacher but something I could use to help my students become LEADERS. Then last year I was able to go to The Leader in Me Symposium in Kansas City and see the habits in action in elementary schools. WOW!!! I am SO in love with this program and dabbled in it in my classroom last year. My goal this year is to teach the students the habits and implement some other things I learned throughout the year. The habits for kids and adults are the same:
I encourage you to watch this short video clip about the 7 Habits. It's informative...and funny :) If you are looking for more information please feel free to ask me! I am excited to see where this journey takes us! *IMPORTANT DATES: August 29- Mrs. Lines absent (afternoon only) September 2-5: NO SCHOOL September 6: Fundraiser Due September 8: Skating Party September 12: Mrs. Lines absent (afternoon only) September 14: Mrs. Lines absent (All day) September 27: School Picture Day/ Mrs. Lines absent (Afternoon only- I won't miss our class picture :) ) September 30: TIGER PRIDE assembly @ 2:30 |

Instead of a snack calendar, students will be responsible for bringing in their own snack every day. I ask that the snack is somewhat healthy-- cookies aren't brain food!! :)
Our snack time will be short (about 5 minutes) and I do not have a refrigerator in my classroom so please keep that in mind when choosing snacks. If you would like to donate extra snack for students who forget to bring a snack that would be greatly appreciated. It would be preferred that these snacks are individually packaged such as granola bars or fruit snacks! Your child is welcome to bring in a special snack for the class on their birthday- remember snacks that are to be shared with the class MUST be store bought. We have a student that is allergic to ALL nuts and sesame seeds. Your child can bring in a water bottle to class to keep at their seat as long as they are able to open and close the bottle on their own. Communication is a key factor to parent-teacher relationships so I want to take a moment to point out the different forms of communication available to you!
E-mail: You are always welcome to email me at [email protected]. I try to check my e-mail regularly during the day and will respond within 24 hours (but most likely sooner!). I will also use email to send reminders and other information! Phone: You can reach me by phone by calling the office at 417-742-4639. However, if it during school hours, you will be sent to my voicemail and I will return your phone call when I am available. Newsletter: Each Friday I will send home a paper copy of a newsletter -- this will include important dates, events and anything else you may need to know that is going on in the school/our classroom. Remind: This is a completely private texting system that allows me to text anyone who joins with no phone numbers being shared. It is great for quick reminders (ex: tomorrow is picture day!) or last minute information (ex: I am sick, there will be a sub today.). To sign up for Remind, click HERE. Blog: This blog will also have our newsletter information every Friday. I may also make additional posts when necessary. It also has links to special class teacher blogs and other important websites. . Facebook: Last year was the 1st time I had a class Facebook page and it was a huge hit! So I am bringing it back this year :) My #1 concern when creating this page is privacy. Please click HERE to view the privacy options for groups. I currently have our group set to "Closed" and it seemed to work well last year. Keep in mind when you request to join the group or make a post, it must be approved by me and won't be immediate. Please click this link to join our Facebook page: Mrs. Lines' 2nd Grade A few things to keep in mind: 1) The purpose of this group is for you to get a peek into our classroom -- it isn't the easiet to add pictures to the blog so I think Facebook is a great way for you to see what we are doing. Please keep posts from the group IN the group (do not share). 2) If you are not comfortable with your child's picture being on Facebook, please let me know. Only members (fellow parents) will be able to see the posts. 3) I do not accept friend requests from student's parents on my personal Facebook page-- it is nothing personal but I also appreciate privacy on my own Facebook page :) As most of you know, my husband and I are expecting our 1st child in October. Obviously, this means I will be on maternity leave for part of the school year. I know this can be stressful for parents (and for me as well) but I want to reassure you that your children will be left in VERY good hands. Mrs. Lawson will be my substitute during my maternity leave-- and great news-- she's experienced! She did Mrs. Whisler's 2nd grade maternity leave during the same time of year and Mrs. Whisler along with the other 2nd teachers at the time raved about her!
Welcome to 2nd Grade! After teaching 1st grade for 7 years, I am SO excited to start this new adventure! With tax free weekend and the first day of school coming up, I wanted to make a couple of friendly suggestions to keep in mind when shopping for school supplies.
First of all here is the link to the school supply list: School Supply List Pencils: Unfortunately, all pencils are NOT created equal. When shopping for pencils, I HIGHLY recommend either Ticonderoga or USA Gold real wood pencils. They are slightly more expensive but totally worth it- they sharpen better and last much longer. Glue: I have an abundance of glue bottles. So instead of buying the glue bottle on the supply list, may I suggest replacing it with either another glue stick OR a bottle of Germ-X. Earbuds: You can find inexpensive earbuds at Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree. You will need to label these with your child's name or initials. When you find a good deal on them, I suggest buying an extra pair. These will be used all year and sometimes end up needing replaced. Unlike 1st grade, we will not be using community supplies. Dry erase markers, pencils and erasers will be "community" (shared with all students) but crayons, glue, and scissors will be kept in student's individual pencil boxes. You can label these supplies and pencil box with your child's name and initials. I always make labels for folders, notebooks, and binders so you do not need to label these. Please bring supplies to Meet the Teacher Night on Tuesday, August 9th. This will allow me to organize the supplies so the 1st days of school go more smoothly. Please let me know if you have any questions. Since I am not in the building regularly yet, e-mail is the best way to contact me: [email protected] |
