Welcome to 2nd Grade! After teaching 1st grade for 7 years, I am SO excited to start this new adventure! With tax free weekend and the first day of school coming up, I wanted to make a couple of friendly suggestions to keep in mind when shopping for school supplies.
First of all here is the link to the school supply list: School Supply List
Pencils:
Unfortunately, all pencils are NOT created equal. When shopping for pencils, I HIGHLY recommend either Ticonderoga or USA Gold real wood pencils. They are slightly more expensive but totally worth it- they sharpen better and last much longer.
Glue:
I have an abundance of glue bottles. So instead of buying the glue bottle on the supply list, may I suggest replacing it with either another glue stick OR a bottle of Germ-X.
Earbuds:
You can find inexpensive earbuds at Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree. You will need to label these with your child's name or initials. When you find a good deal on them, I suggest buying an extra pair. These will be used all year and sometimes end up needing replaced.
Unlike 1st grade, we will not be using community supplies. Dry erase markers, pencils and erasers will be "community" (shared with all students) but crayons, glue, and scissors will be kept in student's individual pencil boxes. You can label these supplies and pencil box with your child's name and initials. I always make labels for folders, notebooks, and binders so you do not need to label these.
Please bring supplies to Meet the Teacher Night on Tuesday, August 9th. This will allow me to organize the supplies so the 1st days of school go more smoothly. Please let me know if you have any questions. Since I am not in the building regularly yet, e-mail is the best way to contact me: [email protected]
