As most of you know, my husband and I are expecting our 1st child in October. Obviously, this means I will be on maternity leave for part of the school year. I know this can be stressful for parents (and for me as well) but I want to reassure you that your children will be left in VERY good hands. Mrs. Lawson will be my substitute during my maternity leave-- and great news-- she's experienced! She did Mrs. Whisler's 2nd grade maternity leave during the same time of year and Mrs. Whisler along with the other 2nd teachers at the time raved about her!

Welcome to 2nd Grade! After teaching 1st grade for 7 years, I am SO excited to start this new adventure! With tax free weekend and the first day of school coming up, I wanted to make a couple of friendly suggestions to keep in mind when shopping for school supplies.
First of all here is the link to the school supply list: School Supply List Pencils: Unfortunately, all pencils are NOT created equal. When shopping for pencils, I HIGHLY recommend either Ticonderoga or USA Gold real wood pencils. They are slightly more expensive but totally worth it- they sharpen better and last much longer. Glue: I have an abundance of glue bottles. So instead of buying the glue bottle on the supply list, may I suggest replacing it with either another glue stick OR a bottle of Germ-X. Earbuds: You can find inexpensive earbuds at Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree. You will need to label these with your child's name or initials. When you find a good deal on them, I suggest buying an extra pair. These will be used all year and sometimes end up needing replaced. Unlike 1st grade, we will not be using community supplies. Dry erase markers, pencils and erasers will be "community" (shared with all students) but crayons, glue, and scissors will be kept in student's individual pencil boxes. You can label these supplies and pencil box with your child's name and initials. I always make labels for folders, notebooks, and binders so you do not need to label these. Please bring supplies to Meet the Teacher Night on Tuesday, August 9th. This will allow me to organize the supplies so the 1st days of school go more smoothly. Please let me know if you have any questions. Since I am not in the building regularly yet, e-mail is the best way to contact me: [email protected] Our Valentine's Day Party will be from 11:30-12:30 on Friday, February 12th. School dismisses at 12:30 that day.
We will eat pizza and ice cream floats and pass out Valentines. Please send a Valentine Box with your child to school the morning of the party. We will start passing out Valentines before the party. We need a few items for the party as well as someone to pick up the pizza at Pizanos. Here is the link: VALENTINE SIGN UP I am also asking that each student bring in $3 to cover the cost of the pizza. Please send in money by Tuesday, February 9th so I can get the pizza ordered. We have 20 students in our class. You can either send in 19 un-marked Valentines or you can have your child put names on the Valentines. If you did not order your child a school shirt but want one, there is a limited number available to purchase in the office for $5. Reading at home is SO important; don’t forget to turn in reading logs. Book-it also starts this month so your child will earn a Pizza Hut coupon if they turn in a reading log! Now that it is getting cooler please send a jacket with your child to school every day. Our Fall Party is on Friday, October 9th from 10:00-11:00. We will have a caramel apple (slices) bar and decorate pumpkins. I am asking that EVERY child bring in a “pie pumpkin” to decorate. These are mid-sized pumpkins—not the teeny tiny ones but not full sized pumpkins. Please do not send pumpkins in until Thursday, October 8th as we do not have room to store them. We still need some decorating and snack items! We would love for you to join us if possible! (October 9th is a ½ day dismissal at 12:40) SIGN UP If you did sign up for Parent/Teacher conferences please do so ASAP. The sign-up sheet was sent out in an email and it is also available on the blog. We have earned 50 Tiger Tokens by making good choices in our classroom and in special classes!
